Flat foot in childhood: time limits between the physiological and local dysfunction and ascendants
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: This article aimed to analyze the structural characteristics of the plantar arch of children establishing relations between the Plantar Index and the age progress. Methods: It was evaluated 97 children from 1 to 9 years old divided in 3 groups, Group 1 (G1): 1 to 3 years old; Group 2 (G2): 4 to 6 years old; Group 3 (G3): 7 to 9 years old, in a total of 194 feet evaluated, being 50 female and 47 male. It was collected data, consisting of: identification, gender, age and plantar evaluation using the footprinting mat.
Results: The G1, G2 and G3 had a plantar index average of 1,15±0,22, 0,91± 0,27 and 0,71±0,24, respectively. The age groups, when compared together, presented a significant statistic difference (p<0,001). Conclusions: The results founded in relation to morphotipology of these 194 feet evaluated show that the advancement of age reduces the flat foot causing an increase of the plantar arch. The age that presented compatible average with flat foot was in the initial ages, between 1 to 3 years old, G1. The longitudinal arch plantar presented a progression of your formation over the years.
