Infantile hemangioma. 17 cases treated with propranolol

Abstract
Introduction: Hemangioma of infancy is a benign and self-limiting tumor; however the lesion can be severely invasive or very deforming. Objective: To report the evolution of hemangioma of infancy treated with oral propranolol. Patients and Methods: Between March 2010 and February 2017, children with hemangioma of infancy who had used propranolol at a dose of 1 mg/kg/day, in two doses and who, subsequently, had the propranolol dose increased to 2 mg/kg/day were followed up at an outpatient clinic of a university hospital. Children with bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis were excluded. Results: In the 17 cases studied, the age of diagnosis varied from 1 to 12 months old
(median: 3 months old). The age of onset of treatment varied between 1 and 18 months old (median: 4 months old). The patients were followed up until marked decrease or resolution of the lesion, which lasted from 2 to 38 months (median: 28 months). There were no complications during the evolution. Conclusion: oral propranolol proved to be safe and effective in resolving hemangioma of infancy visible to ectoscopy.
