Abstract

Introduction: The notification of violence against children and adolescents is a tool for the control of the disease and the care of victims and families. Thus, it is important to understand whether the occurrence of violence in childhood is related to the act of notifying violence against children and adolescents. Objective: To analyze the association between the occurrence of violence in childhood in doctors of the Family Health Strategy and the notification of child and adolescent violence in Manaus. Methods: A cross-sec tional study carried out in basic health units. For data collection, a standardized, pre-coded, previously tested and self-administered multi-thematic questionnaire was used. To identify the occurrence of violence in childhood, the Questionnaire on Childhood Trauma (QUESI) was used. Results: Of the 71 physicians who participated in the study, more than 90% reported the occurrence of moderate to extreme physical and emotional neglect. The occurrence of physical, sexual abuse and emotional neglect predominated in females. There is no relationship between the occurrence of violence in childhood among doctors of the Family Health Strategy in Manaus and the act of notifying violence against children and adolescents. However, it was observed that medical professionals who suffered sexual abuse (60.0%) were the ones who most reported the identified cases. Conclusions: The study showed that the occurrence of sexual vio lence in childhood seems to influence the act of reporting. Thus, it is emphasized the need to consider not only professional experien ces, but also the personal history of professionals when planning training on the subject.
