Rede Cegonha: monitoring of teenagers mothers and her babies in a public hospital in Rio de Janeiro

Abstract
Objective: analysis of maternal and child indicators related to Rede Cegonha.
Methods: retrospective study of medical records of pregnant adolescents and their babies, with data collected and placed in a structured questionnaire.
Results: most of the teenagers lived with partner, had complete primary education and were attending school. Prenatal care was adequate in most patients. The most frequently reported events were: twin pregnancy, toxoplasmosis, infection by HPV and/or HIV. Cesarean delivery level was high. With regard to babies, most were born with good vitality and appropriate for gestational age. The main complications of babies were fetal malformation, premature birth, fetal distress and congenital infections. Most remained in
outpatient treatment. Exclusive breastfeeding for six months was uncommon. Most children achieved proper growth and development, and were fully immunized, as indicated by immunization cards. Conclusion: Rede Cegonha allows early identification of teenagers through easy access to prenatal care, minimizing the risk of preventable complications and creating easy cone
xion between mother and professional, with overall positive consequences for the baby through better monitoring in the health service.
