Abstract

Introduction: Complex chronic conditions (CCC) are those that require specialized care. Objective. This paper aims to describe hospital morbidity due to CCC in children under 19 years of age, in the state of Sergipe, from 2004 to 2018. Methods: A descriptive study was carried out using the SUS Hospital Information System. Hospitalizations for CCC were grouped into 11 categories and analyzed in Tabwin. Results: The total number of hospitalizations for CCC was 14.549.
The prevalence coefficient (per 100,000 inhabitants) increased from 108,2 in the first five-year period to 142,4 in the last, being the highest for malignancy (46,6), neurological (18,8) and cardiovascular
(16,7), and the smallest for respiratory (1,3). The most affected were males (53.9%) and those under 1 year of age (27.8%). The majority (69.4%) remained hospitalized for up to seven days and 7.6% died. The SR of residence and the most frequent occurrence was that of Aracaju (38.5% and 92.9%, respectively). The average cost per hospitalization was US$992.03 and the highest individual cost with cardiovascular disease (US$3,171.64). Conclusions: This study allowed to locate CCCs in children under 19 years of age in Sergipe, which have a growing character, and shows that it is essential to continue studying this topic.
