Abstract
Objective: the objective is to study the profile of children with asthma at pediatric pulmonology clinic. Methods: cross-sectional, retrospective and descriptive study. It was selected the medical records and Asthma Control test (ACT) from 2012 to 2015. Among 105 patients with clinical diagnosis of asthma attended at pediatric pulmonology clinic of the Antonio Pedro University Hospital, 61 (88.09%) from seven to 19 years old, with pulmonary function test
(PFT) were included (average age = 12.21 years). Results: 37 (60.66%) were male. 21 (34.42%) patients were exposed to smoking and 50 (81.97%) had an inappropriate environmental control. 58 (95.08%) had allergic rhinitis; nine
(14.75%) insect allergy, five (8.19%) atopic dermatitis; five (8.19%) eosinophilic esophagitis; three (4.92%) allergic conjunctivitis; three (4.92%) food allergy and one (1.64%) drug allergy. Allergic skin tests for environmental allergens were performed in 22 (30.06%) and 18 (81,81%) were positive test. PFT detected mild obstructive respiratory disorder in 42 (68.85%) and moderate in one (1.64%) and in 18 (29.51%) it was normal. In 33 (54%) thatanswered ACT, 23 (69.69%) showed controlled asthma. Conclusions: this study showed: predominance in male, the majority was associated with allergic rhinitis, mild obstructive respiratory disorder and a controlled asthma score. The highlight is the failure of the basic network of public health to diagnosis and treat cases of asthma. This situation should not, a priori, be referred to more complex hospital. The
teens were in the non-controlled group, emphasizing the adolescence as a complicating factor in the treatment of chronic disease.
