Abstract
Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic may reveal an increase in violence and abuse, by aggravating risk factors such as increased poverty and food insecurity, in addition to being able to confine vulnerable groups in society at home. Isolation also distances children and adolescents from protection, as it makes it difficult for third parties to report and suspects, as well as complicating young peoples contact with support networks, which trigger an alert to society. Objectives: Compare the occurrence of hospital admissions in the SUS, referring to the large group of aggressions from March to December 2020 in the age group of 0-19 years.METHODS: Ecological study of data from the Hospital Admissions System (SIH/ SUS), referring to the occurrence of hospital admissions for group of causes Aggression between the periods of March-December 2018 2020, between the age group of 0-19 years. Results: The number of hospitalizations for aggression registered a gradual decrease from 2018-2020, and of the total 17,857 hospitalizations, 6,782 occurred in 2018, 5,944 in 2019 and 5,010 in 2020. Between 2018-2019, the age group from 15 to 19 years was the most affected. Conclusion: The low numbers of notifications of aggressions, in relation to the numbers of complaints by Dial 100, have historically been correlated with underreporting by responsible professionals. However, the comparison between the cases of 2020-2019 shows a decrease that does not match the expected numbers since the situation of the pandemic has increased the risk factors for violence, which implies a reduction in notifications.
