Seizure

Abstract

 Introduction: seizure is an important cause of pediatric emergency room visit. It is es­sential that the pediatrician knows their different forms of presentation, probable causes, and the main differential diagnoses for adequate case management and give orientation to the family. Objective: an up-to-date review of seizures and the status epilepticus approa­ch in pediatric emergency room. Data source: relevant articles published in the last ten years in the PubMed database, covering exclusively the age group 0 to 18 years. Data synthesis: this review article aims to present the necessary knowledge for the pediatri­cian to be able to recognize the type of seizure, to investigate possible acute causes that require immediate management, and to approach a child with seizure in pediatric emer­gency room. Conclusions: the diagnosis and proper management of seizures and their acute causes prevent complications and progression to the status epilepticus.
