The Journal reserves the right to reject articles with a high level of self-plagiarism for review.
It is the authors’ responsibility to ensure the originality of the manuscript and, when using portions of other articles, to provide proper citations.
The Journal condemns plagiarism in all its forms and will contact authors whenever the percentage of similarity with other texts reaches high levels. If plagiarism is confirmed, the Journal will not accept the manuscript under review.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility
The Journal has made an ethical commitment to promote the adoption of DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility) guidelines throughout its editorial process, with the aim of addressing inequalities, inequities, and disparities in health, and ensuring the greatest possible scientific diversity.
To promote diversity, authors are encouraged to self-identify their gender, race/ethnicity, and origin at the time of submission. Reviewers, editors, and the entire journal staff are also encouraged to provide this information.
Manuscripts submitted to the Journal must adhere to the principles of the Guidelines on Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER). According to these guidelines, the terms “sex” (a biological attribute) and “gender” (shaped by social and cultural circumstances) must be used with care to avoid confusion. We suggest that authors consult the complete guidelines before submission.
Definition of Sex and Gender (Office of Research in Women’s Health, National Institutes of Health – NIH).
– Sex – refers to the biological differences between women and men, including chromosomes, sex organs, and endogenous hormonal profiles.
– Gender – refers to socially constructed and prescribed roles and behaviors that occur within a historical and cultural context and vary across societies and over time.
In accordance with the journal’s guidelines, editors and reviewers must not allow their reviews to be influenced by the manuscript’s origin, the authors’ nationality, religious or political beliefs, biological sex, gender identity, or other characteristics, nor by commercial interests.
To promote accessibility and the dissemination of scientific knowledge, the Journal’s articles are published, at no cost to the authors, in Portuguese and English. Abstracts are published in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.
