Manuscript Categories

The following are considered for publication: original articles, review articles, case report/case series, brief communication, letter to the editor, and editorial.

¹ Word count of the main text, excluding the abstract, references, figure legends, and table content.

2 Single paragraphs, in Portuguese, English, and Spanish; structured as introduction, objective, method, results, and conclusion, except for Case Report/Series: introduction, case report (results), and conclusion.

3 Each illustration must occupy one page.

Original Articles

These are articles reporting results obtained from original research using quantitative or qualitative approaches.

Research with historical content and methodological articles focusing on data collection, analysis, and interpretation processes are also considered original research.

Articles presenting partial or full results from clinical trials must include the clinical trial registration number and the name of the registering body.

Approval by the Research Ethics Committee (REC) is mandatory and must be mentioned in the “Methods”, indicating the approval date and the CAAE number generated by the Plataforma Brasil.

Review Articles

These are articles that review the literature on a specific topic. The type of review must be specified.

References must be up-to-date, with a minimum of 25 sources (maximum of 30).

- Systematic Literature Review – critical review articles of the literature on a given topic. The methods and procedures used to carry out the work must be described. In addition, publication of a systematic review requires the indication of the protocol's registration number in the PROSPERO (International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews) database. The authors' interpretation and conclusion must be present.

PRISMA 2020 guidelines must be followed.

Meta-analyses are included in this category.

- Narrative Literature Review – critical synthesis of the literature on a topic relevant to pediatrics.

Although they do not possess the same methodological rigor as systematic reviews, the methods must clearly outline the search strategies (including the databases consulted, dates, Boolean combinations, languages, and keywords used), the number of articles retrieved and selected, inclusion and exclusion criteria, the number of reviewers involved, and a description of how the data were synthesized.

It is strongly recommended that the level of evidence of the sources used be reported.

The article must present a critical analysis of the literature review conducted and discuss the study's limitations.

Case Report – detailed description and critical analysis of one or more cases, accompanied by a comprehensive and up-to-date literature review on the subject.

The inclusion of a timeline is recommended, where appropriate, to better organize the information chronologically.

Approval by the Research Ethics Committee (CEP) is mandatory and must be mentioned at the end of the introduction, indicating the approval date and the CAAE number generated by Plataforma Brasil.

Brief Communication – description of preliminary results from clinical or experimental studies relevant to pediatrics, presented concisely, that do not warrant publication as an original article.

Approval by the Research Ethics Committee (REC) is mandatory and must be mentioned in the “Methods”, indicating the approval date and the CAAE number generated by the Plataforma Brasil.

Letter to the Editor – brief criticism or comments on topics related to pediatric practice, preferably linked to articles published in the Journal. In the case of criticism of works published in previous issues of the Journal, the letter is sent to the authors so that their responses may be published simultaneously.

Editorial – text submitted at the invitation of the editorial board, on current and relevant topics deserving of attention. It may also contain comments on articles published in the journal, written by specialists on the topic at the invitation of the editorial board.

The manuscript template is available at the link Article Template.
